“I Struggle With Selling My Services.”
Is this something you’ve said to yourself?
Shift your mindset, ditch the desperate sales tactics and serve your clients with excellence.
Marketing and selling your services can be a challenge, especially for new business owners. Most of us want to avoid becoming that desperate sales person that we’ve encountered way too many times. This avoidance can eventually lead to not selling or marketing your business at all, which can possibly lead to slow or no business growth.
So how do we find that balance between desperate sales measures and classy marketing? First, change your mindset from selling to serving. Providing a service is to serve — the word “serve” is the root word of “service.” Instead of looking at selling as a desperation to get people to buy your services, look at it as letting people know how you serve the world with your gifts. Approach marketing with the attitude that you have something valuable to give, and you want to serve your audience by solving their needs.
Here are a few ways to shift your mindset from desperately selling your services to serving your clients with excellence.
Think back to when you first started your business and how excited you were. What was your “Why” for wanting to start your business? What excited you the most? Is your “Why” the same today or have you lost motivation?
Begin to write down your “Why” and what drives you to keep going in business. Revisit your business plan if you have to. Write down why you want to help others and why you believe your services transform your clients’ lives.
The first way to serve others is to meet their needs. Start by creating your Ideal Client Avatar (link) and get to know who your ideal client is and what his/her needs are. Once you understand their story and their pain points, you will be able to connect with them and provide solutions to help them.
Write down the problems you solve and the transformations you create for others. Find people who have these problems and make genuine connections. Join online communities and groups and serve the people in these groups by offering content and tips that address their needs. Resist the urge to sell first and serve them by making a genuine connection and offering free value.
Think back to a time when you’ve been approached by a sales person who was relentless to push their service or product and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Do you think they genuinely cared about your problems or just wanted to get your money, close the sale, and move on?
Treat your audience the way you would want to be treated. Show genuine care and concern for potential clients by getting to know them and their business. Ask questions and go above and beyond to listen intently to their needs. This will help you to grasp a better understanding of the pain points they experience so you can provide the best solution possible.
A great way to serve is to offer free content and educate your audience. This includes blogs, quick tips, free workshops, podcasts, or videos that speak to the pain points your audience experiences. Provide simple solutions to start them on the path to success.
Your goal here is to confidently show your expertise, point them in the direction of how to start solving their problems, and state how you can serve and guide them to success. When providing free content, it’s OK to state the services you provide and ask for the sale with a clear call to action, such as Buy Now, Schedule a Call, Apply Now. You understand your customer’s problems and you know these problems won’t go away on their own. This is why they need you to help them.
When engaging with your audience, be your authentic self. Find ways to have fun. This can be by creating fun videos to connect and show your personality. Find fun and creative ways to deliver your content. When you incorporate fun into serving others, it will feel like a joy instead of a burden.
Until Next Time…
