So you’ve built your online home and you’re super excited! You imagine lots of people visiting your website and your sales skyrocketing! Unfortunately, as you track your Google Analytics, you’ve come to realize that your website visitors leave as quickly as they came. Hmmm, what is going on? You’ve invited them to a party at your online home and they don’t want to stay?
There are a number of reasons why people are leaving your website.
Within seconds of landing on your website, visitors have a first impression and initial judgment. If the top of your homepage (called ‘above the fold’) doesn’t make a good impression, there is a high chance people will leave immediately. In order to make the best impression, you want to include a captivating professional photo that represents you and/or your business.
If your brand visuals are outdated or non-existent, this can leave visitors unimpressed as well. Choose brand colors that represent you and your business. Keep your colors to a minimum (3-5 colors). Make sure the colors compliment each other and you consistently use the same colors throughout your website. Also, it’s good to put some personality to your website. If your business needs a visual brand refresh, I can help you. You can schedule a call.
Within 5 seconds of visiting your website, your audience needs to be able to understand what you offer. Include a brand statement or value proposition at the top of your homepage (above the fold) that states the benefits your services provide. Also your website needs a clear call to action button that encourages the visitors to take action to do business with you. Call to action buttons can include — “Buy Now”, “Schedule a Call”, “Make an Appointment”. The purpose of the call to action button is to get the potential customer to buy your product or service or initiate the request to buy your service.
On your services page, include details about what the client will receive so they can get a clear idea of the benefits of buying your services.
Think about when you invite someone into your home. Would you invite them into your house looking like this?
Even if you did invite them into your home looking like this, how long do you think they would want to stick around?
Now, think about inviting them into a home that is organized, neat, clean, simple. Like this.
Think of your online home the same way. Invite your clients into a website that is easy to navigate, organized and not cluttered with irrelevant images and text.
A slow loading website is a sure way to get people to quickly leave your website. Nowadays people want instant results. If it takes too long for your website photos and content to load, many people may not be patient enough to wait and will move on to the next website.
Avoid slow loading websites by making sure you’ve uploaded photos that are optimized for the web. You want your large file photos to be adjusted to 72 DPI. This is a suitable setting for web viewing. Most photo viewers installed on your computer will allow you to adjust the resolution of the image in the tools or settings menu.
Over 60% of websites are viewed on mobile devices. Make sure when your website is designed, that it is responsive for mobile devices. If your audience can’t view your website on a mobile device (phone or tablet), then it leaves a bad first impression about your business.
You want your audience to trust that your business can deliver the results they need.
Your website can build credibility with your audience. Include testimonials and let other people speak positively about you and your services.
If you’ve ever received awards, recognition, or certifications for your skillsets and services, include these on your website. This shows that you are an expert in your field.
If other businesses have trusted your services or featured you on their platforms, you can include a section that says “Featured In or Trusted By.”
You can also show your expertise by educating your audience around the problems that you solve. Speak to your audience’s pain points and challenges and give tips that can help them. Once you build trust with your audience by offering free value and tips, they’ll be more likely to purchase from you.
Take a look at your website and ask yourself if it represents you and your business in the best way possible. If not, I can transform your online presence and work with you to build a brand and website that confidently speaks to your target audience and grows your business. Schedule a call and let’s get the conversation started.
Until next time…
